Tom Sawyer second post

Now that you are most or all of the way through Tom Sawyer, you have seen how important some of the other characters are. Often characters are important in one of two ways: they either show the reader something about the main character or they move the plot forward in some way—that is, something they do or some reaction that the main character has to them causes something new to happen in the story.

For this post, think about how some character other than Tom Sawyer is important to the book. Although you could do this with any character, I want you to use one of these three characters: Huck Finn, Becky Thatcher, or Injun Joe. Tell about the character, then tell how Tom reacts to this character—tell what sorts of things Tom does with and/or because of this character. Then give some examples of how that character affects the plot, telling which you think is the most important, or at least the most important so far in the story.

If you see that other people have posted on one character, post on a different one, so that we cover all the characters.

So that you have plenty time and access to the computers at school, I have changed the due date on this post to November 30.

Huck Finn is a boy about 13 years old he is very adventurous, but when night comes he is all alone because his dad is a drunk and beats him. Huck sleeps in a brawl at night and does not have rules like tom does, so tom is jealous of him. Widow Douglas adopts him as a thanks for saving his life.
Huck is one of tom’s good friends that runs away to Jackson’s island to play pirates with tom and Joe. Huck is kind of one of the main characters because a lot happens in the book because of Huck. He saves Widow Douglas’s life. Huck is almost always with tom and helps the chapter really sound good. I think either Huck Finn or Injun Joe is the most important out of the three.

I will talk about Becky Thatcher. In the beggining of the book, when Tom first lays eyes on her, Mark Twain expresses how strongly Tom felt about Becky. He was walking down the street and took a glance at her, and before he knew it he couldn't keep his eyes off of her. I think that this character distarcts Tom such that his plans have a twist to them by always trying to impress Becky and trying to win her back is part of how there relationship starts, then ends, then starts again

Injun Joe is a very evil man. The first time he was mentioned in the book, he already seemed like a villain. Tom and Huck are deathly afraid of him ever since Tom testified to the court about what really happend on the night of Dr. Robinson's death.
Throughout the book, it keeps talking about Injun Joe getting revenge on Tom and Huck. But once it talks about Judge Thatcher locking up the cave that Tom and Becky had gotten lost in, Tom got worried and told him that Injun Joe was still in there. Once Tom and Judge Thatcher had unlocked the cave, they saw Injun Joe lying on the ground because he died of starvation. Tom had felt pity for him, but yet relieved that he would never have to worry about Injun Joe ever getting revenge on him or Huck.

Huck Finn is important to the book because he is a friend with Tom and they are just alike and they always get into trouble. He is also important because he always helps Tom and Tom helps them. They keep secrets about Injun Joe and the secret room. So this is why Huck Finn is important in the book.
